Why ripple? How it works ripple home

ripple 2.0

Another thing we’ve been frantically working away at (in the hours after 11 PM when we finish our real jobs) is our ideas for ripple 2.0.

We have a bunch of really exciting ideas for improving the ripple site. Most are top secret but some of our priorities are:
- Offering people a ripple identity so that they can track what they’ve contributed and how many other ripplers they’ve brought to the site
- Improving our facebook, blog and myspace applications/widgets so that they track contributions and potentially even serve ads themselves
- Creating a community space where people can colloborate on ways to improve ripple and spread the word
-Taking up the offer of some of our international ripplers into translate the site to French, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and Italian.

We’d like to ask the ripple community (there are thousands of you now after all) for some help on 2.0 things to make ripple 2.0 happen.

Ideas

You’re a clever bunch…you care about ripple….what are your big ideas for how we can improve, innovate and make an even bigger difference? Send us an email or leave us a comment but we’d love to hear from you.

The Money

We paid for ripple 1.0 out of our own back pockets and with the contribution of a lot of love from Evolution7.

Given ripple sends 100% of our revenue straight to the charities we are going to have fundraise or seek sponsorship to build ripple 2.0. If you know of anyone or an organisation that might like to fund our second phase of development…let us know!

What about being able to choose the types of ads you were interested in?

Or what if you could enter in demographic information….would the ads generate more money?

Would it be possible to get an email reminder service, so I don’t forget to click?

Is it possible to give some sort of progress reports on how the fundraising is coming along? Every week (or month), for instance, posting how many clicks etc, and how much all this raised – either in dollar terms or days of fresh water etc. Or both! I’m sure you don’t have enough work to do already :P
It may heighten people’s motivation to see what good work you (and they) have done.

I’m writing up a proposal now and should have it finished by the end of the week. I knowI said I’d have it done a while ago but ive been stupidly busy.

Similar to what Louise said, you should have a big sign on the front page that displays the amount of money raised for charity to date and how it breaks down into the different charities. I think this would really motivate people to keep clicking.

make it readable! the small, thin, light blue font on a white background is VERY difficult to read, especially for baby boomers like me who LOVE to give to charities.

I would love a RSS feed for the blog! The entries remind me to come to the site… if I see them.

Also, I would like a fancier blog widget but my LiveJournal blog TOS won’t allow ones that serve advertisements or offsite JavaScript. I have this at the moment: http://rickybuchanan.livejournal.com/profile

Best of luck

One idea I know I’d love to see is ripple plugged into a popular website, with a counter that records clicks through a website, has ads on the site (creating impressions constantly) and updates the users of a site on how much money they are raising just by browsing an clicking on links normally. It would be fantastic to hook up amazon, google digg, or facebook for a month, track clicks and give proceeds to ripple charities. Oh! and a counter screensaver, OSX widget for searching, badges for my blog, and and RSS feed for your blog. Keep up the good work! I dig ripple

Annie, it’s still in the works! As with all things done on a volunteer / spare time basis, it’s taking a little bit longer than we planned…but ripple 2.0 is still happening. Thanks for checking in on us – Watch this space!
